PRIVATE BROWSING

Using the private browser: search engines, cookies and bookmarks

MemoVault’s Browser gives you a separate place to browse inside the vault. Choose a search engine for typed searches, enter a website address directly, or return to a link you have bookmarked.

Step by step

  1. Open Browser and choose an engine

Open Browser from the vault home screen. Select DuckDuckGo, Google, Brave or Startpage on the start page. Your selection is remembered for later searches; it does not change the search engine in your phone’s other browsers.

  2. Search or open a website

Type a search into the bar at the top and submit it, or enter a complete website address. Searches use your selected engine. A website address opens that website directly. Use the browser’s Home control when you want to return to the engine choices.

  3. Save a link for later

Open the specific address you want to keep, then tap the bookmark control in the browsing toolbar. The bookmark stores a title and link on this device. Open the bookmarks list from the icon at the top to revisit a saved link, or use the remove control beside an entry to delete it.

  4. Clear the current session

While a page is open, tap the shield to open “Private session”, then choose “Clear this private session”. This resets the browser view and returns you to the private start page. It is the explicit way to end the current session and request removal of its temporary browsing data.

What happens to cookies automatically?

The browser is configured for incognito browsing, with caching, shared cookies and third-party cookies disabled. Temporary session data is separate from saved bookmarks. Simply switching to another app is not the same action as choosing “Clear this private session”; use that control when you want to explicitly reset your session.

Will clearing a session delete my bookmarks?

No. Bookmarks and your chosen search engine are saved separately and remain available after the session reset. Remove a bookmark from the bookmarks list when you no longer want it saved. A bookmark saves the link, not an offline copy of the website.

Does private browsing make me anonymous?

The browser does not provide a VPN or hide your activity from a website you visit. Search engines receive the searches you submit, and signing into a website identifies you to that service. Clearing local session data does not delete records held by those services.
